I visited two nature parks, El Yunque National Forest and Guánica Dry Forest Reserve. Nature has been damaged extensively by the hurricane as well, especially in the El Yunque National Forest. The Guánica Dry Forest Reserve did not suffer as much.
I did a short hike through the Guánica Dry Forest Reserve. The mosquitoes were so bad, I didn't spend much time looking for birds. As soon as I stopped even briefly, I was covered with mosquitoes.
The El Yunque National Forest was better in that respect. But because of hurricane damage, the bird life was largely absent. I did manage to see the Puerto Rican Tody (Todus mexicanus, german: Gelbflankentodi, french: Todier de Porto Rico) a small, colorful endemic bird.
